Her industry sounds a lot like mine. I've been in tech sales for about 20 years and it's all numbers and pressure. Drinking was how a lot of weeks ended for me. I drank regularly for 30 years and still hit my number, so nobody asked questions, including me. Nice job not leading with sobriety coach, by the way. It generally comes out naturally like it did in this scenario.

Thanks Colin! Appreciate your time reading and the comment. I bet too based off your environment you were just around it a lot as well. Business dinners, what do you do? It’s funny you say I still hit my number because I wrote about this here.

For business dinners. Still have them. Diet Coke, soda water with a lime. If it ends up being just coworkers, a cigar bar after dinner, if one’s available.

Nice! And you feel good the next day. 💪

This: “The reasons were always free. The nights they bought you were not, and you paid for those one morning at a time.”

Sounds very similar to my life when I was still drinking.

I’ve missed many sunrises. So grateful for them now.

I really liked this. You handled that conversation with so much care, especially by not making her feel judged or like you were trying to “fix” her.

What stood out most was how quickly it became less about drinking and more about stress, pressure, family expectations, and feeling like you actually get to make your own choices.

And that last line really got me. Sometimes the most meaningful conversations are just the ones where both people leave feeling a little more understood. ❤️

This means so much April, thank you for your time in reading and sharing your comment. I love how you say “fixed.” Because I don’t think anyone wants to be fixed. I’m sure through unconscious behavior we may think we are helping in certain situations. But yeah, there isn’t anything wrong with anyone really. Made up of our habits and choices. 💛
